Dolgoprudny Historical and Art Museum

In the quiet center of Dolgoprudny, behind a modest facade, there lives an amazing story — not frozen in the windows, but warm, breathing, woven from human destinies and great achievements. The Dolgoprudny Historical and Art Museum is not just a collection of exhibits, but a kind of chronograph of time, where every detail preserves the echo of bygone eras.

Born in 1958 through the efforts of enthusiastic local historians, the museum started small — with carefully collected evidence of airship construction, which once made this city special. Today, crossing the threshold, it's like stepping into a time machine: here are fragments of the USSR airship in front of you.‑B6" from the crash site there are silent witnesses of daring flights and tragic crashes; here are photographs of the first airships and aeronauts, personal diaries and belongings of crew members. The exposition "Aeronautics and Airship Construction" tells about the creation of the Airship construction plant and about the pages of the history of the city of the 30s-40s, the harbor of the Soviet airship industry.

But the story of Dolgoprudny is not only about the sky. In the halls of the museum, a narrative slowly unfolds about the construction of the Moscow—Volga canal, about the war years, when the city became a reliable rear, about the simple everyday life and holidays of ordinary citizens. Each object, from an antique iron to a front—line letter, tells its own little story, which makes up a large chronicle of the place. Unique photographs of the construction, maps of the future canal, drawings and paintings by the prisoner artist, witness and participant of the grandiose construction help to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of those difficult years. The exposition "Moscow-Volga Canal. 1932-1937" tells about the construction of an artificial waterway, laid in the immediate vicinity of Dolgoprudny and connecting the Volga and the Moskva River.

"From the past to the future through the present" — the exhibition is represented by a time tape that tells about the history of the Dolgoprudnenskaya land to the present day. Photographs, documents, and exhibits arranged in chronological order illustrate the timeline.

"Dolgoprudny's Contribution to Victory" — photographs, documents, uniforms, models of military equipment, models of weapons, as well as works of fine art on the theme of the Great Patriotic War, telling about the enterprises of the city during the war, about the citizens — Heroes of the Soviet Union and about ordinary Soviet workers who forged Victory in the rear.

A special note of the museum is "Lacquer miniature" — the exhibition shows the works of masters of lacquer miniature: Fedoskino, Palekh and Mstery. Of the items presented, 43 caskets were transferred to the museum in 2019 from the disbanded fund of the Union of Artists of the USSR. Lacquer miniature is perhaps the only folk art craft, in whose works the beauty of Russian nature, the life and aspirations of the Russian people, and significant events in the life of the country are most vividly reflected.

And next to it is the art space. Paintings and graphics by local craftsmen enliven history with colors, show the city through the eyes of artists: sometimes thoughtful and quiet, sometimes festive and bright. Paintings from the Soviet era and works by modern authors are juxtaposed here — this is how the museum maintains a living connection between the times.

But the most amazing thing is that the museum does not close itself in the past. Its halls are constantly being filled with new meanings: the voices of lecturers resound here, laughter is heard at master classes, ideas flare up at temporary exhibitions. During the "Night of Museums", the space is transformed — dimmed lights, mysterious stories, and animated exhibits create a unique atmosphere.

This is a place where the past does not gather dust under glass, but continues to live — in the stories of guides, in the eyes of visitors, in the endless dialogue of times. The Dolgoprudny Museum is not a repository of artifacts, but the heart of the city, which beats in unison with its history.
